Spring camp on May 19-20

Our annual spring training camp will be Saturday-Sunday May 19-20 at the Fox Chapel Yacht Club.

Season Starts Now!

Practices are starting for all Steel City Dragons teams. Beginning Monday, May 7, the schedule is:

  • Mixed team
    • Tuesdays & Thursdays - 6:30-7:30pm
    • Saturdays - 9:30-10:30am
  • Pink Steel
    • Mondays & Wednesdays - 6-6:30pm "Boot Camp Killer", 6:30-7:45pm regular practice
    • Saturdays - 8-9:30am practice, 9:00-10:30am recreational cruise
  • Youth Program
    • Saturdays 11am on June 9, 16, 23, 30
  • All teams
    • Sundays - 9-10:30am practice will vary from recreational to more intense, depending on crew and coach

All times are on water. Please arrive 15-30 minutes ahead to prepare. Contact us at info@steelcitydragons.org for more information.

Spring into fitness

Spring Into Fitness is a program that brings a fitness focus to the survivor community. Several activities are planned for Spring 2012: Indoor rowing workouts five Sunday mornings in April and May; Walking with Pink Steel at the May 13 Race for the Cure; Dragon boat camp and picnic on May 19.

New paddlers can get on our mailing list, inquire about the 2012 season (and off-season activities) and ask any other questions by sending an email info@steelcitydragons.org. Stay tuned for more news!

Steel City Dragons Mixed: Our mixed (male and female) racing crew is open to all adults. We practice three times a week in preparation for several out-of-town races.

Junior team: Our junior team is for boys and girls ages 10-17. They receive the same high-level coaching as our adult teams, and prepare for races in special youth divisions.

Breast cancer survivor team - Pink Steel: Our Breast Cancer Survivors' team supports breast cancer awareness and provides a positive athletic community for survivors in the Pittsburgh region. Survivors' teams are a rapidly growing sector in the world of dragon boating, with teams like Philadelphia's Hope Afloat competing and winning all over the world. For survivors, dragon boating offers an ideal exercise to enhance physical recovery bolstered by a supportive team environment. Click here for more information

Women's team - Women of Steel: Our women's team competes in events that have separate all-women's divisions.

Corporate/organization teams: We have coaches, equipment, and training programs to develop a team for your organization. Options range from one or two sessions to a full racing season. Contact us for details.

Who we are:

The Steel City Dragons organization is a Pittsburgh-area Dragon Boat Team. We formed in 2002 and had our first full competitive season in 2003 followed by 2004-2008 seasons filled with awards, medals, and growth of new teams. Many more activities are in the works for the coming years, including lots of racing at all levels and plenty of casual fun.
