On-water sessions have started

The 2013 paddling season has started, with on-water sessions for all teams.

Mixed team: 6:30pm Tues. & Thurs. and 9:30am Sat.
Pink Steel: 6:30pm Mon. & Wed. and 8:30am Sat.
All teams: 9:30am Sunday cruise

All times are when the boats push off, so arrive early to set up and get in the boat. Complete information and waiver forms and review the information sheet and payment voucher before your first session. More details on the schedule page.

Hot Metal Youth team for kids in June

The Hot Metal Youth dragon boat team is for kids ages 10-17. It includes four sessons on June 1, 8, 15, and 22 at 10:30am - 12pm. Sessions will include team building, scrimmages, and leadership skill instruction. On-water practices will be led by Steel City Dragons certified coaches. A $35 fee covers all coaching, a team shirt, a pizza social, and use of team equipment.

Spring training camp on May 18-19

Spring training camp will be May 18-19, 8:00am - 3:00pm at our Fox Chapel Yacht Club base. A low fee of $50 pays for two full days of in-depth dragon boat training for paddlers of all levels.

Golf Fundraiser on June 9, 2013

The Annual Carol Raber Memorial Golf Fundraiser to benefit the Pink Steel Breast Cancer Team and other Steel City Dragons programs is set for June 9, 2013. Sponsors and volunteers are being solicited. The highest profile sponsorships are limited, so contact us now if you are interested in supporting this event. Sponsors will be acknowledged on our website.

Our teams:

New paddlers can get on our mailing list, inquire about the 2013 season (and off-season activities) and ask any other questions by sending an email info@steelcitydragons.org. Stay tuned for more news!

Steel City Dragons Mixed: Our mixed (male and female) racing crew is open to all adults. We practice three times a week in preparation for several out-of-town races.

Junior team: Our junior team is for boys and girls ages 10-17. They receive the same high-level coaching as our adult teams, and prepare for races in special youth divisions.

Breast cancer survivor team - Pink Steel: Our Breast Cancer Survivors' team supports breast cancer awareness and provides a positive athletic community for survivors in the Pittsburgh region. Survivors' teams are a rapidly growing sector in the world of dragon boating, with teams like Philadelphia's Hope Afloat competing and winning all over the world. For survivors, dragon boating offers an ideal exercise to enhance physical recovery bolstered by a supportive team environment. Click here for more information

Women's team - Women of Steel: Our women's team competes in events that have separate all-women's divisions.

Corporate/organization teams: We have coaches, equipment, and training programs to develop a team for your organization. Options range from one or two sessions to a full racing season. Contact us for details.

Who we are:

The Steel City Dragons organization is a Pittsburgh-area Dragon Boat Team. We formed in 2002 and had our first full competitive season in 2003 followed by 2004-2012 seasons filled with awards, medals, and growth of new teams. Many more activities are in the works for the coming years, including lots of racing at all levels and plenty of casual fun.
